Slow is the way to go - Starving Insect is a producer who is known to take his time, only releasing a few scattered tracks since his milestone album on Dark.Descent. but now he is well up for this, the sophomore release on Haunted.
Slow is the way to go – surely this is true for these deeply atmospheric tracks, self-proclaimed as “cosmic terror”, and yet each distinctly different: “Charnel Winds” is a truly haunting soundscape with a subtle pulse and a captivating melodic line, “Pallid Stars” goes further with a more prominent rhythmic backbone and a post-punk style guitar hook, a track that screams without a vocal.
Any dance floor needs are satisfied by the remixers, legendary doom duo Mental Fear Productions turn “Charnel Winds” into a gloomy banger, and 14anger does as he does best, infusing “Pallid Stars” with an unhealthy dose of rave dementia.
